So, the question is... where on earth is 2025 going?!
We're already into November and it's time to reflect on another busy month of commentary for BBC Essex Sport - and another new venture - which took me pitchside and courtside!
I had four Southend United games to cover for BBC Essex Sport across the month - all of which ended with a win!
We had to wait for the last victory, 2-0 against Brackley Today - but my goodness it came in style...
This is the new lead clip on my reels.
I was really pleased with my geography in the build-up to this goal, following the action across the field while making the positioning clear to the listener.
My tone and volume also crescendoed to meet the moment midfielder Leon Parillon buried the ball into the bottom-right corner.
It was all about keeping calm, getting detail across (Parillon's first goal of the season) and painting a picture of the Roots Hall celebrations.
I love travelling and one of my longest journeys of the season came in the middle of the month to Lancashire.
And it ended with a win for Southend United...
In October, I experimented with a couple of different things.
I love hearing commentators when they say the score straight after the goal to give it impact. This felt right for the Blues' last goal against Morecambe, matching the pace at which they attacked down the left wing.
Also, I have been working in recent quotes from players and managers into commentaries. I realised this was missing in my work this season, so have been alluding to it more.
In the above example, Southend head coach Kevin Maher called for the Blues to be 'ruthless' against Morecambe. A third goal certainly illustrates a ruthless performance, so it was worth a reminder!
WHAT DID YOU THINK TO THESE CLIPS? GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!
As mentioned in my last blog, I love working up an introduction to my commentary which offers something unique to the game.
With hit BBC series 'Celebrity Traitors' the talk of the month, I had to get it into my Southend vs Brackley Town commentary on Saturday 25th October...
I enlisted some help from my parents (self-titled 'Traitors experts') to get the key terms, which I wrote down to see how many I could get into the commentary.
It was a good news - I was 'faithful' and got everything in!
For the 2025/26 season, I would like to expend my commentary skill set beyond the weekly football I cover for BBC Essex Sport.
I have worked at five Olympic/ Paralympic Games since 2021 in a different department but would love to get involved in the commentary teams.
But I need more under my belt before being considered.
Opportunity came knocking with England Volleyball, though, who asked if I would get involved in Super League coverage this season.
So I made my way to Loughborough to cover Essex Rebels vs Leeds Gorse as a summariser alongside the brilliant Michael Hanson-Morris for Opening Weekend...
I must admit, I have not been this nervous before a commentary in a long time.
I have watched volleyball lots before while working at the Olympics but I had to get clued up on the rules and intricacies of the game before getting involved.
My research came up trumps and I soon saw that certain players would be responsible for key moments, so was able to focus in on them.
I had a brilliant time covering the match and here's hoping there'll be more to come in the 2025/26 season court-side!
